Fibula autograft survival following resection of osteoclastoma of radius.

چکیده
GIANT-CELL tumours of bone may be malignant from the onset or malignancy may develop during treatment. They are, therefore, best treated by complete excision where this is surgically possible, with bone grafting of the resultant defect. A patient presented with an osteoclastoma of the lower end of the radius, which was completely excised and replaced by an autogenous fibula graft. The successful complete incorporation and function of this whole bone replacement, with satisfactory joint function, was followed by an injury and a fracture. The lack of radiological change within the grafted bone shaft, the normal appearance at subsequent operation, and delayed union following the fracture are of interest, and valuable when the incorporation of fresh autogenous bone grafts is compared with those whose viability has been destroyed.

Wrist Joint Reconstruction With a Vascularized Fibula Free Flap Following Giant Cell Tumor Excision in the Distal Radius
OBJECTIVE Multiple therapeutic modalities exist for giant cell tumors (GCT) in the distal radius. The majority of GCTs are amenable to curettage, with the expanded lesions requiring a more radical approach. This case report examines the technique of managing a GCT that has extended beyond the boundaries of the cortex and into local tissues. The decision to use arthroplasty versus arthrodesis an...
متن کاملGiant cell tumour of the distal radius: wide resection and reconstruction by non-vascularised proximal fibular autograft.
INTRODUCTION Giant cell tumours of the bone are aggressive and potentially malignant lesions. Juxtaarticular giant cell tumours of the lower end radius are common and present a special problem of reconstruction after tumour excision. Out of the various reconstructive procedures described, non-vascularised fibular autograft has been widely used with satisfactory functional results. MATERIALS A...
متن کاملClinical outcome of en-block resection and reconstruction with nonvascularized fibular autograft for the treatment of giant cell tumor of distal radius
BACKGROUND Although giant cell tumor (GCT) is considered to be a primary benign bone tumor, its aggressive behavior makes its diagnosis and treatment, difficult and challenging. This is especially true in distal radius where GCT appears to be more aggressive and difficult to control locally. We report our clinical outcome of en-block resection and reconstruction with non-vascularized fibular au...
متن کاملIntercalary Reconstruction after Wide Resection of Malignant Bone Tumors of the Lower Extremity Using a Composite Graft with a Devitalized Autograft and a Vascularized Fibula
Introduction. Although several intercalary reconstructions after resection of a lower extremity malignant bone tumor are reported, there are no optimal methods which can provide a long-term reconstruction with fewest complications. We present the outcome of reconstruction using a devitalized autograft and a vascularized fibula graft composite. Materials and Methods. We conducted a retrospective...
متن کاملDistal radius reconstruction with vascularized proximal fibular autograft after en-bloc resection of recurrent giant cell tumor
BACKGROUND Giant cell tumors (GCTs) located in the distal radius are likely to recur, and the treatment of such recurrent tumors is very difficult. Here, we report our clinical experience in distal radius reconstruction with vascularized proximal fibular autografts after en-bloc excision of the entire distal radius in 17 patients with recurrent GCT (RGCT) of the distal radius. METHODS All 17 ...
